The Chilton Ave project addressed the visual and functional disconnect between a 1920s vintage home and a 2000s detached garage apartment. While both structures shared a material palette, their differing scales created an awkward relationship across the property. Our solution was a new bridging structure that mediates between the two existing buildings while providing the covered access our clients desired. The result is an expansive outdoor living pavilion featuring kitchen, dining, and living areas that can be enclosed with retractable screens for protection from mosquitoes and wind. Flanking a central fireplace, two French doors open to a connector hallway that links the main house and garage apartment, transforming what was once an exposed exterior path into a seamless indoor-outdoor sequence that unifies the property.
